Understanding Different Types Of Bicycles

Bicycles are categorized according to their use. The physical appearance and design might similar but what matters is their function. Over the past years, bicycles have evolved with major transformations in their features. You can still get the best bicycle under 20000 depending on your needs. The following are the types of bicycles.

Mountain Bikes

This type of bike is designed for off-road trails and are great for a workout. Their handlebars are either flat or upright with a low gear range for pedaling up a steep trail. The shock absorbers or tension are important for mountain bikes. The ones with front suspension are called hardtails while the ones with both front and rear suspension are called duallies or full-suspension bikes.

Mountain bikes without suspension are known as rigid. Another alternative use of mountain bikes is for commuting or touring even though they are not as light and efficient as the traditional touring and commuting bikes. Fat bikes with wide tires are also categorized as mountain bikes.

Hybrid Bikes

Hybrid bikes offer the advantages of both road and mountain bikes. They provide a comfortable riding position with padded seats and upright handlebars. This means they can be used for short-distance commuting, running errands, and casual riding around the neighborhood. They do not offer efficiency as they are not light weighted as road bikes, but they can be ridden on paved roads.

Hybrid bikes are ideal for paved and unpaved trails but not for rough off-road trails as mountain bikes. Due to their medium-width tires and semi-smooth tread, they provide a smooth ride on paved roads. They have enough grip and cushion for a comfortable ride on unpaved trails. Hybrid bikes can have front suspension to smooth but some are rigid.

Cyclocross Bikes

Cyclocross bikes can be used on mixed surfaces liked paved, unpaved, gravel, and grass trails. Their tires are a little wider for more off-road traction. They have different styles of brakes that prevent mud from building up in the frame. Cyclocross bikes have drop-down handlebars like regular road bikes.

They are bikes perfect year-round for you, they will cope with off-road excursions as well as speed. There’s enough space around the wheel for mudguards and knobblier tires just like hybrid bikes. They are the best bikes to be used during the winter months.

Road Bikes

As the name suggests road bikes have been designed for road use. They can be ridden very fast on smooth pavements. They are usually lighter than all types of bicycles.

Road bikes have drop-down handlebars and smooth skinny tires perfect for on-road cycling. They are not suitable for commuting, touring, or carrying heavy loads. They are uncomfortable and unstable for riding on unpaved trails.…
